This is a reminder that in the municipal boundaries of the City of Anderson
there is a permitting process for political signs it is as follows:
12.9 Temporary Signs
(C) Political Signs:
(1) Allowed in all zoning districts
(2) Shall not be erected more than 45 days prior to an election, and must be
removed within 14 days following the election.
(3) In accordance with S.C. law, no such political signs shall be placed within
two-hundred (200) feet of any building in which an election poll is being
conducted.
(4) No political signs shall be placed on utility poles within the City, placed
within the public right-of-way or located in such a way as to create a traffic
hazard.
(5) A security deposit, to be determined by City Council, will be required of
each political candidate or campaign prior to being issued a sign permit. The
deposit shall be returned at which time all political signs have been removed
and disposed of properly. The candidate or campaign shall forfeit the security
deposit after the 14 day cleanup period following the election if the signs are
not removed. Forfeiture of deposit shall not preclude the City from pursuing
other criminal and/or civil action to enforce this Ordinance.
(6) Maximum size allowed in residentially zoned areas is (9) nine square feet.
The time lines for the January primaries are as follows:
Republican Party primary is on January 19, 2008. Sign permits cannot be obtained
prior to December 5, 2007 and signs cannot go up until a permit is obtained. All
signs must be removed by February 2, 2008 to receive a refund on the security
deposit.
Democratic Party primary is on January 29, 2008. Sign permits cannot be obtained
prior to December 14, 2007 and signs cannot go up until a permit is obtained.
All signs must be removed by February 11, 2008 to receive a refund on the
security deposit.
Each candidate must pay a $10.00 application fee and a security deposit of
$200.00. After the signs have be removed, and verified, the security deposit
will be refunded.
